Detailed Itinerary For The 12 Days Eastern Circuit Self Drive Uganda Safari

Day 1: Arrival to Kampala

Begin your Ugandan road trip in the vibrant capital city of Kampala, where you can visit the Kampala central and explore the bustling local markets like owino and Nakasero. Explore Kampala city, cultural and historical sites. Encounter distinct tourist attractions and places of interest to visit, from museum, art and craft galleries.

Day 2 Transfer to Jinja

After breakfast, embark on a drive to Jinja tour with a stopover at Ssezibwa falls and Mabira forest for a forest walk to view different primates, butterfly and bird species. After that, continue to Jinja to see the source of the Nile, take photos and later head to Jinja Nile resort for dinner and overnight.

Day 3. White water rafting.

Have breakfast at the lodge and embark on a lifetime adventure experience of White water rafting on the mighty River Nile. You may go horse riding, Tubbing or quad biking. Feel the adventure all the way. In the afternoon after taking lunch, you will return to lodge for relaxation. Dinner and overnight at jinja Nile resort

Day 4: Jinja to Sipi Falls.

Have breakfast and embark on a picnic drive to Mbale on the edges of Mout Elgon. Have lunch enroute and proceed to Sipi Falls, arrive in time for a hike to Uganda’s highest waterfalls that consist of three spectacular chains of falls. This hike will take you through interesting villages surrounded with coffee plantations and will also give you beautiful views of the Karamoja plains. Other possible activities you can enjoy at the falls are abseiling, birding as well as tasting Arabica coffee. Dinner and overnight at Sipi River Lodge.

Day 5: Transfer to Moroto

Embark on a picnic drive to Moroto, arrive in time for Hiking Mountain Moroto, visiting local communities (The Karamajongs), and learning more about their culture and their ways of life. Engage in activities like milking, harvesting, music, and dance and an overnight at Karantunga Safari Camp.

Day 6: Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park

Today you will embark on your journey through Karamojong manyattas to Uganda’s remotest national park with the unexploited wilderness. Upon arrival, have lunch and check in your lodge and thereafter go to visit typical Karamojong manyattas and experience their ways of living, learn about their cultures and get entertained with their traditional dances. Day 7: Narus valley and Kanangorok hot springs

Morning Game Drive to the Narus valley to see the early grazers such as see cheetahs, black-backed jackals that are only found in Kidepo as well as buffaloes, giraffes, maneless zebras, reedbucks, lions, leopard, Jackson’s hartebeest. Kidepo is also home to ostriches which you will see during the game drives through the park. After lunch, drive through Kidepo valley with a visit to the Kidepo river valley and kanangorok hot springs. Accommodation: Nga’moru Wilderness Camp (Mid-range)

Day 8: Hiking to the IK people

After breakfast, drive to the base of Morungole ranges with packed lunch to start your hike to the IK people. Then Drive to Murchison Falls and check in at Murchison River Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Game drive and Boat cruise

You will set off for an early game view drive on the North of the Nile. Expect to see animals like lions, Buffaloes, waterbuck, Jackson’s hartebeest, oribi, and baboons. Then you will take a launch cruise on the Victoria Nile River. Spot schools of hippos, large crocodiles, small herds of buffalo. There is rich birdlife on the papyrus banks, watch out for the shoebill stork, the most sought bird in Africa, drive to Murchison River Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Budongo for chimp tracking

Have breakfast and packed lunch, then drive to Budongo Forest, where you will go and report to the offices of Uganda Wildlife Authority, for briefing about the dos and don’ts of chimpanzee tracking. You will be given ranger to guide you in the forest. Tracking can take you for like 5 – 6 hours tracking, and after seeing them, you are given a maximum of 1 hour with the Chimpanzees, take the pictures, then after come back to the starting point where you will drive to the lodge, relax and prepare for the following day journey to Ziwa rhino sanctuary. Accommodation: Budongo eco-lodge 

Day 11: Murchison – Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Have breakfast and drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, a drive that is about 2hours and check in at Amuka Lodge for Lunch, in the afternoon, you will be joined by Rangers as you go trekking the endangered rhinos through the bushes. This is the only place where you can track rhinos in Uganda.

Day 12: Drive to Entebbe International Airport.

On this day you will embark on your journey back to Entebbe International Airport for your departure.
