The 15 days Uganda self-drive safari takes you for double gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking and Wildlife viewing through some of the most beautiful National parks in Uganda, including Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kibale Forest national park, Lake Mburo National Park, and Murchison Falls National Park.
Detailed Itinerary for 15 days Uganda Self-drive Safari
Day 1:Entebbe to Murchison Falls National Park- (Ziwa Rhino sanctuary)
Drive via the famous Luwero Triangle after your breakfast from your lodge with a stop over at Masindi for your lunch, after which you will proceed for White Rhino viewing at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. You will have lunch en route and reach Murchison Falls National park in the evening for your dinner and your overnight stay at Murchison river lodge.
Day 2: Game drive & Boat ride.
Head for your incredible game drive after your morning breakfast with high expectations to spot Elephants, giraffes, Buffaloes, Lions, Bush bucks plus a variety of bird species. Return for lunch at your lodge after then you will continue for your afternoon boat cruise on the river Nile up to the bottom of the falls where the 40m wide river squeezes itself through a seven-meter narrow gorge with great sightings of wildlife like Hippos, crocodiles as well as elephants, water bucks, the Uganda kobs, goliath herons, Egyptian geese, pelican bee-eaters, kingfishers, hornbills, cormorants and the rare shoe bill stork along the Shores of the River.
Return then to your lodge for your dinner and an overnight stay. (Meal Plan on full board.
Day 3: Lake Albert Drive ( 4 hrs drive)
Have an early breakfast, and take the en-route drive from Murchison to Lake Albert Southwest to experience the Albertine Escarpment of the Western Rift Valley with lunch en route. You will then visit the lake and enjoy the scenery and the many fishing methods. Dinner and overnight at Lake Albert Safari Lodge.
Day 4: Transfer To Kibale Forest National park.
Wake up as nearly as you can, have breakfast, and take a 4-5 hours drive to Kibale forest National park as you will pass by Fort portal with a panoramic view of the undulating and fabled Mountain Rwenzori have a lunch en-route. Dinner and Overnight at Kibale primate lodge.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest – Bigodi wetland.
Head to the park headquarters, for briefing after your early morning breakfast then depart for the chimpanzee tracking forest walk. Not only will you encounter the chimpanzees but also other primates such as red velvet, white and black Colobus monkeys, Blue monkeys, Red-tailed monkeys and grey-cheeked Mangabey chattering and swinging through the ancient forest trees.
Return to your lodge for lunch and after in the afternoon visit the Bigodi wetland for a walking safari to spot wildlife like Sitatungas birds and the rare shoe bill after which you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight,
Day 6: Chimpanzee habituation.
On this day you will start your habituation process will start as early as 6:am, so you will have to wake up and have your breakfast at around 5:00 am. You will watch chimpanzees leave their nests, follow them to their different destinations, and spend a full day with them, as you see them interacting, feeding, playing, how they look after their young ones. You will then leave the forest late in the evening when they start making new nests for sleeping. This day will give you the right impression that the chimps are the closest human relatives to human beings with a DNA of 98.7%.
Lunch will be en route during your habituation process whilst dinner and overnight at your lodge
Day 7: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park and Boat cruise
Have breakfast after your early morning wake, and embark on your safari drive to Mweya through the crater lakes region, as you will have an en-route game drive as you enter the park and check in at Mweya/Bush Lodge. Have lunch and make preparations for the afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel in which you have great encounters with wildlife from close quarters as they cool off along the shores of the Channel that connects the Ramsar site, Lakes George, to Lake Edwards. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at the lodge. The meal plan is on Full board.
Day 8: Game drive in Ishasha sector (tree climbing lions) experiential Research tours.
Set off for Isasha after your breakfast for an experiential Research tour, where you will have incredible and magnificent sightings of tree climbing lions resting on top of the fig trees as well as studying their ways of living. dinner and overnight still at your lodge.
Day 9: Game drive and transfer to Bwindi Gorilla Park.
Dive for an early morning game drive at Gisenyi plains in search of wildlife which includes Buffaloes, Hyenas, lions, kobs, and wort hogs and by chance, you may also encounter hyenas among others. The game drive duration is about 3-4 hours after which you will return to your lodge for breakfast and thereafter drive to Bwindi gorilla park via the Isasha sector where the tree climbing lions can be seen by luck with lunch en route, arrive at the silver back lodge for your check-in, dinner and an overnight
Day 10:First Gorilla trekking
After your morning breakfast, drive together with your lunchbox to the park headquarters for trekking orientation before you go into the thick forest. The trek is pleasant in that it offers a dramatic, heavily forested and dense landscape. The time duration and the terrain varies according to the movements of the primates, and on your encounter, the thrill of spending time with them and observing them is rare in that a maximum of an hour as you will take some pictures after which you will return to your lodge dinner and an overnight.
Day 11: Second Gorilla Tracking.
Your second gorilla trekking is yet another inspiring moment because you will be able to track a different gorilla group/family using a different trail. You still be required to carry a lunch box with at least a one-a-half litre bottle of water and all the other processes are similar to the first gorilla trek where you only be given a maximum of only an hour in their presence after which you will embark to your roots and back to your lodge (cottages) for dinner and overnight.
Day 12: Boat cruise and Batwa community visit at Lake Bunyonyi.
In the morning, you will have a boat cruise on Lake Bunyonyi- home to many beautiful birds. Enjoy watching them as you cruise on one of the deepest lakes in Uganda. In the evening, you will have a community walk around the Batwa Communities. Dinner and overnight as in your hotel.
Day 13: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park and evening game drive (Approx. 2-3 hours).
In the morning, you will embark on your car and drive to Lake Mburo National. Lunch en-route. On arrival, you have an evening game driver where you see zebras, hyenas, many antelopes and many more. Dinner and overnight at Rwakobo.
Day 14: Game drive and Boat cruise.
Wake up very early in the morning and see the early risers in the game drive. sight animals like zebras, hyenas, many antelopes and the Uganda kob. have your lunch at your lodge and embark on a boat cruise in the afternoon at Lake Mburo. Look out for beautiful birds, and many other aquatic animals. Dinner and overnight as in your respective lodge.
Day 15: Depart for Kampala (Approx. 3-4hours).
Your 3-4 hours drive from lake Mburo national park to Kampala/Entebbe is yet another adventurous driving moment with en-route lunch, as you opt to catch up with your scheduled flight
