31-day Best of Uganda safari

This 31-day itinerary will all you to adventure the pearl of Africa taking you through all the top Uganda destination while observing all the top tourist attractions along the way. From meet the rare and endangered shoebill (a bird species) at Entebbe to walking with gorillas and golden monkey at Bwindi impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorillas National Park respectively.

Trip overview

The trip will start with the visit to the Mabamba swamps for birding, then proceed to Ssesse islands for water and fishing activities before moving to Lake Bunyonyi where there is punishment island, then continue to Mgahinga National Park for mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. Go to Mutanda Lake before proceeding to the most visited park in Queen Elizabeth National Park for wildlife viewing. After here continue to Rwenzori National Park for hiking before Kibaale for Chimpanzee trekking.

Your journey will proceed to Murchison fall for the breathtaking view of falls and game drive. After you will have to visit the Zziwa rhino sanctuary, the only place where you can trek rhinos in Uganda before returning to Kampala for city tour and the drop off.

Day 1 to Day 2: Entebbe city

After your arrival at Entebbe international airport, you will be picked up by a professional driver/guide who will take you to hotel for the checking. Depending on the time of your arrival you can drive to botanic gardens to enjoy some fresh air. The next day, early in the morning you will start off your day by going to Mabamba swamps for the birding event. The highlight of birding will an encounter with the rare shoebill species that reside within the swamp.  After here you shall transfer to Ssesse islands.

Day 3 to Day 5: islands

At Ssesse island, Kalangala district several birds live on this island therefore you will be able to watch several birds including kingfish, fish eagle and more. The bird activity is carried in Ssese swamps. After birding you will go swimming in the whiter waters of Lake Victoria before proceeding with the fishing that will be guided by an expert in fishing. Continue with the sand bathing in the white sand of the island and complete with the hiking and natural walk at Ssese. Transfer to Lake Mbulo National Park.

Day 6 to Day 8: Lake Mbulo National Park

At Lake Mbulo National Park, we shall start with a game drive that will lead us to animals like elephants, lions, leopards, zebra and many more. You will also encounter antelopes like Uganda Kob, bushbucks and more. After the game drive, we shall go on the boat cruise to meet up with what we shall have missed on drive on top of enjoying the cool weather of the lake. Things you are likely to see on waters are crocodiles, hippos and more. Continue with fishing before going on community walk that will allow you to get the deep understanding of the local people. Then transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Day 9 to Day 10: Lake Bunyonyi

We are going to go to lake bunyonyi where you will visit the punishment island where girls who used to get pregnant before marriage used to be dropped. You will also continue to the Batwa community where you will get to know these traditionally hunting people before going birding at the shores of the lake. Proceed to Mgahinga National Park

Day 11 to Day 12: Mgahinga National Park

It is never a Ugandan safari without gorilla trekking; therefore, you will do gorilla trekking at Mgahinga National Park. After the trek, you will go hiking at volcanoes before continuing with trekking of another trekking of an endangered species in form of golden monkey. Then you will transfer to Lake Mutanda.

Day 13: Lake Mutanda

At Lake Mutanda, we shall do a boat riding where we shall meet different aquatic life, then proceed with the with fishing helped by the fishing expert. The rule of fishing is catch and release however you are allowed to go with one fish for the dinner. Proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Day 14 to Day 16: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Now it is time to visit Uganda’s most visited park in Queen Elizabeth National Park where we shall go on game drive where you shall be able to meet 4 out of 5 Africa big five, before continuing on the kazinga channel for the boat cruise and viewing of different aquatic lives and those that leave on showers of water and end the safari with sport fishing with the help of fishing guide to catch so fish. After here, we shall continue to Rwenzori Mountain

Day 17 to Day 22: Mountain Rwenzori

Rwenzori mountain has the tallest peak in Uganda in Stanley’s Margherita peak standing at elevation of 5,109 meters above the sea level. The peak is the third highest in Africa so hiking it will give you a self fulfilment. After the hike, you will proceed to Kibaale National Park

Day 23 to Day 25: Kibaale National Park

The haven to the primate in Uganda, from the chimpanzees to black and white colobus monkey. The park is also a home to various nocturnal creatures that you will encounter on a night game drive. So, after the chimpanzee trekking, make sure to proceed with the night game drive to leave no stone unturned. After adventuring Kibaale, you will continue to Murchison falls National Park.

Day 26 to Day 28: Murchison falls National Park

Go on a game drive at the park to meet up with different animals including lions, buffalos, elephant and many more at Murchison fall national park. After that, you will go on the highlight of the park which is visiting the Murchison falls. This is where the park gets its name. After the park visit, we shall continue to the white-water rafting at the Nile River. Then go to Zziwa rhinos

Day 29: Zziwa rhino sanctuary

Throughout our journey, we have only missed one out of the five big five in Africa and that is rhinos. In Uganda rhinos can only be trekked at Zziwa rhino sanctuary and on this day, you will meet these giants from within their natural habitats. After walking with rhinos, you will drive back to Kampala

Day 30 to Day 31: Back to Kampala

Get back to Kampala, the capital city of Uganda where you will embark on city tour and city tour to visit places like Ndele cultural center, Uganda museum, Uganda parliament and Kasubi tombs. After here you will move to the airport for the drop off.
